Man remanded in custody following assault on police in Portsmouth

A man appeared in court yesterday (16 April) charged with assault against an elderly man and police officers.

It’s alleged that a 77-year-old man was assaulted in Hayling Avenue, Baffins, at around noon on Thursday 11 April.

Officers attempted to arrest a suspect on Monday (15 April) and it’s alleged that they were also assaulted.

Conor James Hodgkins (28) of Buriton St, Portsmouth, was charged with:

  • Use threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour to cause harassment / alarm / distress
  • 2 x assault a person occasioning them actual bodily harm
  • 2 x assault by beating of an emergency worker
  • 3 x common assault of an emergency worker
  • Racially / religiously aggravated intentional harassment / alarm / distress – words

He’s been remanded in custody. His next appearance is at Portsmouth Crown Court on 20 May 2019.
