Between Monday 24 September and Friday 28 September officers from Newport’s Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a special operation on Wellington Road outside Carisbrooke C of E Primary School.
The action was taken following concerns raised by parents and members of the public about road safety in the area.
Officers patrolled the area every day between 08:30am to 09:30am and 2:45 pm to 3:45pm. They spoke to drivers to ensure the road was safe for children to cross and that drivers were not causing unnecessary obstructions.
PC Ben Sharland said: “The operation was a real success, we received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from parents walking their children to school.
“We issued one fixed penalty notice for leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position and provided over forty drivers with information sheets. Our policy was to issue everyone with an information sheet and only to issue a fixed penalty notice to those who had already been warned.
“We’ve attached a comparison photo to show what the road looked like on the Monday morning compared to the Friday.
“We will repeat the operation with no notice at various times during the school year to re-inforce the message”.
