Appeal for witnesses in Basingstoke assault investigation

Press release   •   Jun 25, 2018 14:51 BST

We are investigating a report of an assault that took place following an incident at the Down Grange car park in Basingstoke.

At around 10pm on Friday 22 June, the victim, a 36-year-old woman, challenged a group of men who were seen driving around the car park in Pack Lane.

The men then left their vehicles and allegedly damaged hers, a black Mercedes A Class.

The victim then drove away, but she said she was followed through town by vehicles including a white Mercedes saloon car and a blue Vauxhall Corsa.

The incident was then reported to the police.

Police staff investigator Michael Longmore said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has any information about what happened.

“Were you in the car park at the time and saw what happened? The victim states there was a motorcyclist in the car park at the time, and other cars were parked there. If you were there and saw what happened, please call us.

“Equally we would like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a black Mercedes A Class car being followed by other vehicles that evening.”

A 22-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested in connection with this incident.

He has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting 44180234396.
