Shoppers in Fleet reminded to keep valuables out of sight following purse thefts

Press Release   •   Nov 06, 2018 12:20 GMT

Shoppers in Fleet are being reminded to keep their purses safe following two thefts last week.

Officers are investigating the two incidents which happened on Fleet Road.

The first happened on Thursday (November 1) when a 69-year-old woman was out shopping.

At some point between leaving the British Heart Foundation Shop and walking to her car, at around 2pm, her purse was stolen.

The second theft happened on Saturday (November 3), when an 81-year-old woman had her handbag and purse stolen at some point between 12.50pm and 1.15pm.

The woman was in the British Heart Foundation shop and had put her handbag and purse in the trolley, with a cover over it but when she went to pay, both were missing.

Sgt Rob Wallis, from the Neighbourhood Team in Fleet, said: “We are doing everything we can to find those responsible.

“This includes reviewing CCTV from the area, as well as carrying out extra patrols.

“But I would like to take this opportunity to remind people to keep their bags, purse and wallets out of sight and secure where possible.

“They are many simple steps you can take to help prevent your valuables being stolen, such as keeping bags and purses closed at all times, carrying bags in front of you or diagonally across your chest and avoid carrying significant amounts of cash. So share these tips with family and friends.”
